This class will be held in person, on Saturday May 11 and 18, from 12:30-2:30pm.

This is the perfect class for anyone that has been curious about the art of crochet and didn’t know where to start!

In two consecutive saturdays, two hours each, you will learn all you need to create a flat piece of fabric using a hook and yarn.  We will learn the basics as a group, practice the skill immediately, and also have 1:1 support.  Your learning will not be rushed, and it will be experiential and fun (but let Wai know if fun isn’t your thing!).

In the two classes, we will go over the foundational skills that will help you build a good crochet practice that will unlock the inner fibre-artist in you.  The knowledge we will cover include (not necessarily in this order):
1) What materials and tools are required to get started, and which ones are nice to have.
2) Types of yarn and hooks.
3) The basic techniques and stitches: slip knot, chain, slip, single, half double crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, weaving in the ends.
4) Ideas of items you can make with this knowledge.
5) Resources for your crochet practice.

Everyone is welcome to join, especially if you have tried to learn to crochet before and got frustrated.

Materials are included!
- 50g of DK weight cotton
- 4mm hook

Wai Chan (she/her/we) is a Toronto-based maker who learned to crochet, embroider, and sew as a young child in Zanzibar and learned to knit as a teenager after moving to Toronto. Wai enjoys teaching people various needle-crafts as she believes everyone deserves the joy of creating something with their hands!  Wai enjoys creating bespoke one of a kind pieces and has had pieces displayed in various public exhibitions. To balance the fibre artist within, Wai is also a personal development coach, a retired healthcare administrator, and a mother of three sons.

Please note that classes will only proceed if we have a minimum of two attendees. If the minimum is not met, there will be the option for a refund or to reschedule.
There will be a six person maximum for each class.
